Nothing beats the best of the VIP world better than celebrity poker players. They are rich, lucrative, and glamorous. They make the best out of the luxurious and featherbedding lifestyle that is furnished to them by casinos, poker tournaments and basically anywhere they go, simply for their star-status appeal.
Most actors that were involved in gambling movies developed a keen interest like George Clooney.
The E.R. man and numerous hit films such as Solaris, Intolerable Cruelty, Syriana, 3 Kings, The Perfect Store, From Dusk To Dawn, O'Brother Where Art Thou? did not only star in gambling related movies such as Ocean's 11, Ocean's 12, and Ocean's 13 but also has taken an active role in the gambling business when he invested an unknown sum of money in a $3 billion resort in a Las Vegas.
"I wanted it to be like old Vegas and old Hollywood. It's going to be a classy joint," Said Clooney.
While filming the movie Ocean's 12 in Rome, George Clooney, along with co-stars Brad Pitt and Matt Damon and their guest, Michael Douglas, husband of co-star Catherine Zeta-Jones, were engaged in late-night poker sessions, and some of them were as good as professional players.
PokerStars teamed up with the cast and producer of this summer 2007 Hollywood blockbuster "Ocean's Thirteen" and offered a truly unique set of tournament prizes. Just by playing poker, players joined PokerStars in sending much-needed funds to relieve the suffering in the war-torn region of Darfur.
George Clooney play poker together with the Ocean's 11, 12 and 13 co-star Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Don Cheadle, plus producer Jerry Weintraub launched Not On Our Watch, a foundation that focus in the international attention on the ongoing suffering in Darfur. The $1 million donation was made at a special event last May 22nd 2007 two days before the May 24th World Premiere held at the Cannes Film Festival.
He joined in the 2007 World Series Of Poker Tournament that was named "Ante up for Africa" to benefit the overwhelming social, economic and humanitarian crises in Darfur, Africa in 2007. Celebrities that participated in this $5,000 buy-in tournament included: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Jennifer Tilly, Adam Sandler And James Woods.
George Clooney also took part in the recent 3rd Ante Up For Africa Poker tournament happened at at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino last July 2, 2009.
In 2006, the Academy Awards nominated George Clooney for Achievement in Directing and Original Screenplay for “Good Night, and Good Luck," and Best Performance By An Actor In A Supporting Role for “Syriana”.
Clooney is first seen having to do with poker in “Ocean's Eleven”. Nevertheless, the poker fans among us are for an even more special treat in the planned sequel “Ocean's Thirteen” released in 2007, which is being composed by the same scriptwriters who wrote “Rounders”, a popular poker flick.
